Citroen AX Sport from the UK

Bonjour,

I hope you don't mind me typing in English instead of doing google translate! I bought this AX from Portugal last month. It is a series 2 1988 model. It has fully restored body and cleaned up engine. I just need to tune up the carbs and fix the tachometer which isn't working. It is an AX GTI dashboard as the original melted in the sun apparently!

I am not sure there is another on the road in the UK so not many people know that much about them. This forum seems to have much more information and help on than any in the uk. I nearly bought a 205 rallye from France several years ago, but recent prices for them in the UK are quite expensive now for good condition ones. I saw this AX at a much lower price than I have seen before so I flew to Lisbon to see it with a friend and we ended up driving it back over 4 days! We got some compliments going through France which was nice!

Merci pour les commentaires! Haha yes, not many cars lighter than the AX these days. Only kit cars as you say such as the Caterhams. I'll get used to the lhd, I actually prefer the gear stick on the right- that's how it was in the old f1 cars

I imagine that english people are very interested by Citroën AX, because last Saturday in Aix en Provence, 3 young english mens were 5 minutes left to turn around my AX "image".

Thanks! I am from Banbury in the midlands, not too far from Birmingham. The AX had the odometer reset when the engine was taken out, so is on 5000km. The shell had done only 60000km before the rebuild. All panels are original.

I would like to get an original dashboard at some point. I like th original dials and mini rev counter!

I used to have a series 1 106 rallye and have missed driving it since I sold it. Its hard finding standard ones now and I fancied something similar ideally with the same engine so the AX is ideal! I prefer carburettors to fuel injection also I used to have a Talbot sunbeam lotus also- I generally like cars which have some motorsport background. Alot of the sporty French cars have close connections to motorsports

Also my grandad had a 205 gti turbo technics, so since then I have liked this era of French cars.
